Boatman Practical Training – 90 sailing days and 9 months (English)
This route is for people who follow the training Boatman – 90 sailing days and 9 months. During this training, the participant is a light boatman (boatman in training).
To start the training, the following conditions apply:
at least 17 years old, and
meet one of the following conditions:
5 years of work experience (any kind of work experience), or
a 3-year vocational education, or
500 sea days as deck crew on a seagoing vessel.
During the training, the skills of a boatman are learned by:
completing the required portfolio tasks, and
doing boatman’s work in daily practice on board.
The competence as a boatman is shown by:
completing the required portfolio tasks, and
doing a practical exam.
The training lasts at least 90 sailing days and 9 months, both counted from the registration date. The practical exam may be done after 6 months.
The Boatman’s stamp is issued after 90 days and 9 months at sea by SAB.
Boatman on sailing time English (360 sailing days)
This route is for people who already have sailing time and experience.
Because of this experience, the training program can be completed faster.
There are no entry requirements before starting.
After finishing the training, it must be shown to the SAB that:
– the age is at least 18 years, and
– enough sailing time has been completed.
One of the following combinations of sailing time must be shown to the SAB:
– 360 sailing days on inland waterways, or
– 250 sailing days at sea and 180 sailing days on inland waterways.
During the training, it must be shown that the person is competent as a boatman by:
– completing the required portfolio tasks, and
– doing a practical exam.
The Boatman’s stamp is issued by the SAB after 360 days at sea and a minimum age of 18 years.
Instruction activation code
You will receive an activation code with the course.
Instructions for activating your exam training:
- Order and payment: After completing your order and payment, you will receive a confirmation email.
- Receiving the Email: This email will contain your unique activation code. This code can be found at the bottom of the email with the order details.
- Selecting and Activating the Module: Use the activation code to select and activate the correct module for your exam training.
