Information about the Deckhand training
After completing this training, the participant receives a CBR-approved certificate: Basic Safety Training Deckhand.
With this certificate and a valid medical examination, you can apply for a service record book with the EU qualification ‘Deckhand’.
For candidates who follow the Boatman training (90 sailing days and 9 months) and already have a service record book, the Basic Safety Training Deckhand is a mandatory part of the Boatman training, unless you have an exemption.
After the course, you also have the skills of an Emergency Responder (BHV), as described in Article 15 of the Dutch Working Conditions Act (Arbowet).
Deckhand practical training Dates
The practical training days are always on the second Friday of the month, from 9:00 to 16:30.
There is also a practical day on the second Saturday of the month. This will only take place if there are enough participants.
Note: Booking is only possible through the online portal.
You get access to the online portal after registration and payment for the Deckhand training.
You can cancel or change your practical day up to 1 week before the scheduled day. After that, it costs €195.

The practical day is on board ms HORIZON.
The location is Sliksloothaven in Krimpen aan den IJssel.
Instruction activation code
You will receive an activation code with the course.
Instructions for activating your exam training:
- Order and payment: After completing your order and payment, you will receive a confirmation email.
- Receiving the Email: This email will contain your unique activation code. This code can be found at the bottom of the email with the order details.
- Selecting and Activating the Module: Use the activation code to select and activate the correct module for your exam training.
